Junior Matches & Tournaments

Wicklow Hockey Club uses Teamer (www.teamer.net) to invite junior players to matches and tournaments. Please respond to these invites promptly and accurately.

Tournaments and matches usually take place on Sunday.

The objective of matches and tournaments is to give junior players opportunities to get as much match time as possible and develop them as all round hockey players. The format of the matches is adapted to their age and ability level (for example: FUN4s, SUPER6s, XTREME8 for explanation see www.hockey.ie).

Boys and mixed tournaments generally use the underage system to select players; girls only events tend to use school class/year.

Transport to away tournaments is the responsibility of the parent/guardians. Some invites may include a meet place and time, e.g. Kidzone Wicklow.

Home tournaments take place at Nelson Park, East Glendalough School, Station Road, Bollarney, Wicklow Town.

Parents/guardians of players who take part in home tournaments can oblige by providing a plate of healthy snacks and drinks to be shared with visiting teams and parents/coaches.

We encourage parents/guardians of junior players to offer whatever help they can, bearing in mind that all coaches contribute their time voluntarily and are often parents themselves. Duties include preparing the pitch, car park attendant, coaching a team, refereeing, first aid, general supervision, catering, registration and welcoming.

If you have any questions about tournaments or matches, or if you would like to offer your help, please contact the Coaching Co-ordinator.
